Toro Rosso took a momentous step on Tuesday morning by unveiling their new race livery amid the ongoing pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Italian team showcased their 2016 design for the STR11, marking a fresh chapter as they transition from Renault to a 2015-spec Ferrari power unit.
Team principal Franz Tost expressed pride in the new car, stating, "We are proud of this car and what it represents in terms of the work that went into designing and building it in record time in our new facility in Faenza." He also emphasized the significance of reverting back to Ferrari power, adding, "And I am particularly pleased that 2016 sees a return to Ferrari power, with everyone looking forward to working once again with our friends from Maranello."
Previously, during the opening test, both Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz drove the car, which initially sported a plain blue color scheme. Verstappen, who was named rookie of the year in 2015, was the first to take the new livery on the track. "In Formula One, the stars are the drivers and I am keen to see what our two very talented youngsters, Max and Carlos can achieve this year, as they are now in their second season," Tost noted, highlighting the team's hopeful outlook after finishing seventh in the previous constructors' standings.
The pre-season testing runs from Tuesday to Friday, featuring all eleven teams in attendance. This session provides not only a platform for Toro Rosso to unveil their car but also for Sauber to give their new C35 car its first track outing, having previously used a modified version of their 2015 design.
